The big stores are useful if you go past the front page. Follow labels rather than charts, dig into related artists, and save anything that grabs you on first listen for a proper second pass later.

Direct from the artist

Quality is part of the dig
A track is only as good as the file you play out. Where you can, choose high-resolution WAV over lossy downloads, especially for anything you will play on a big system. Extended DJ edits are worth seeking out too, since they are arranged to actually mix rather than to stream.
Keep a "ready" crate, not just a library
Digging is only half the job. Cull hard. A record that does not earn its place after two listens does not go in the ready crate. A tight, current crate you know inside out will serve you better on the night than a bottomless library you have never really heard.
